Her Life Story
Elizabeth Bryce was the daughter of James Bryce. Her mother was Elizabeth Chester. Her grandfather, Sir Hugh Bryce, was a very successful goldsmith. He even became the Lord Mayor of London in 1485.
Elizabeth married a goldsmith from London named Robert Amadas. He was very talented at his work. Robert quickly became the richest goldsmith in all of England. Elizabeth and Robert had two daughters together, named Elizabeth and Thomasine.
Robert Amadas wrote his will in 1531. He passed away by April 14, 1532.
Accusations and Challenges
In 1532, Elizabeth Amadas faced a difficult time. She was arrested because people thought she was speaking against the King. She also said that the King, by choosing a younger woman over Catherine of Aragon, was encouraging other men in England to do the same.
At this time, Elizabeth's husband had recently left her. She also claimed she could predict the future. She was eventually released from her arrest. However, Elizabeth and her husband later faced money problems. They did not get back their important position at the royal court.
