Elizabeth Brudenell, Countess of Cardigan (born May 26, 1758 – died June 23, 1823), was an important lady in British society. She was known as Lady Elizabeth Waldegrave before her marriage. She became the second wife of James Brudenell, 5th Earl of Cardigan.

Her Early Life and Family
Elizabeth was the daughter of John Waldegrave, 3rd Earl Waldegrave. Her mother was Lady Elizabeth Leveson-Gower. Elizabeth was born in 1758 and was baptized in Kensington. She had two brothers. Her older brother, George, later became an Earl. Her younger brother, William, became an admiral in the navy. He was later given the title Baron Radstock.
Her Marriage and Family Life
On April 28, 1791, Elizabeth married the Earl of Cardigan. She was 32 years old, and the Earl was 76. Their wedding took place in London. The Earl had been married before, but his first wife had passed away. Elizabeth and the Earl of Cardigan did not have any children together. The Earl died in February 1811 when he was 85. After his death, his earldom went to his nephew, Robert Brudenell, 6th Earl of Cardigan.
Life at the Royal Court
From 1793 to 1807, Elizabeth had a special job. She was a Lady of the Bedchamber to Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Queen Charlotte was the wife of King George III of the United Kingdom. A Lady of the Bedchamber was an important helper and companion to the Queen.
Her Later Years
The Countess of Cardigan passed away in June 1823. She was 65 years old. She died in Mayfair, London. Her death was caused by "inflammation." She was buried in Navestock, a village in Essex.
