Elizabeth Cody Kimmel (born 23 October 1964) is an American writer. She writes books for children and young adults. She has written over forty books. Her books include picture books, middle grade novels, and young adult stories. Elizabeth often writes about things she loves. These include history, Tibetan Buddhism, spooky stories, and polar exploration. She has also used other names for her books, like E.C. Kimmel.

Growing Up and School
Elizabeth Cody Kimmel was born in New York City. She spent her childhood in Westchester County, New York. She also lived for a time in Brussels, Belgium. She went to Emma Willard School and finished in 1982. Later, she studied at Kenyon College in Ohio. She graduated from college in 1986.
Becoming a Writer
Elizabeth Cody Kimmel's first book was In the Stone Circle. It was a mystery story set in Wales. This book won an award called the Minnesota Youth Reading Award.
In 1999, she wrote a non-fiction book called Ice Story: Shackleton’s Lost Expedition. This book was about a famous trip to the South Pole that went wrong in 1914. It was honored with a Golden Kite Award.
Books About Buffalo Bill
For several years, Elizabeth wrote a series of historical fiction books. These books were about the childhood of Buffalo Bill Cody. He was a famous American figure. Elizabeth is actually related to him! In 2003, one of these books won the Western Writers of America Spur Award. The book was called In the Eye of the Storm: The Adventures of Young Buffalo Bill.
The Lily B. Series
In 2005, she started a popular series for middle schoolers. It was called the "Lily B." series. There were three books in this series.
Daring Women and Top Jobs
In 2006, National Geographic Books published her non-fiction book, Ladies First: 40 Daring Women Who Were Second to None. This book was listed as a notable book in social studies. The Washington Post also chose it as a "KidsPost Book of the Week."
Her picture book from 2007, The Top Job, was highly praised. It was even turned into a musical in New York City!
Suddenly Supernatural Series
In 2008, Elizabeth started her "Suddenly Supernatural" series. These books have been translated into five different languages. The first book, School Spirit, was very popular. It was chosen by Scholastic Book Club. The New York Public Library also listed it as one of their "100 Titles for Reading and Sharing."

In 2009, Elizabeth wrote a biography about the Dalai Lama. It was called Boy on the Lion Throne. This book was listed as one of the "100 Top Books" by Bank Street College. The Dalai Lama even wrote a special introduction for the book!
Newer Books and Film Tie-ins
In 2012, she started the "Forever Four" series. She also wrote Legend of the Ghost Dog. This book was a main choice for Scholastic Book Club and Bookfairs. Elizabeth has also worked with Laika Studios. She wrote book versions of their movies, like The Boxtrolls in 2014.
Elizabeth Cody Kimmel lives in upstate New York. She continues to write and edit books. She also helps out with a publishing company called Walker Books. She works as an advisor for them.
