Elizabeth Sophia Tomlins was born in 1763. She grew up to be a talented writer. She is known for her stories (novels) and her poems.

Her Family and Early Writings

Elizabeth had a brother named Sir Thomas Edlyne Tomlins. He was also a writer. In 1797, her brother published a book of poems called Tributes of Affection by a Lady and her Brother. Most of the poems in this book were written by Elizabeth herself.

Her Novels and Other Works

Elizabeth Sophia Tomlins wrote several novels. Her most famous novel was called The Victim of Fancy. This book was inspired by another popular story from Germany, Werther by Goethe.

She also wrote other novels, including:

  • The Baroness d'Alunton
  • Rosalind de Tracy (published in 1798)

Besides her own stories, Elizabeth also translated books. She translated the History of Napoleon Bonaparte from a work by Louis-Pierre Anquetil. This means she changed the book from one language to English so more people could read it.

Later Life and Death

Elizabeth Sophia Tomlins continued to write and contribute to different magazines and newspapers of her time. She passed away in a town called Cheltenham on August 8, 1828.
