Elko, Missouri facts for kids
Elko is a small, unincorporated community located in Putnam County, Missouri, in the U.S. state of Missouri. An unincorporated community means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does.
History of Elko
Elko has an interesting past! It was first known by a different name: Garfield Springs. This area was officially mapped out, or platted, way back in 1833.
Later, in 1885, a post office was opened in the community, and it was given the name Elko. This post office helped people send and receive mail for many years until it closed down in 1908.
