Ellen Kyle Noel (born December 22, 1815 – died June 20, 1873) was a talented writer from Ireland who later became a Canadian author. She wrote many stories and novels that were published in magazines and newspapers. She often used the pen name Mrs. J.V. Noel.

Early Life and Moving to Canada

Ellen Kyle was born in Ireland in 1815. Her family was Anglican. When she was older, she moved to Canada. She settled in a city called Kingston in Ontario.

Life in Kingston and Marriage

In Kingston, Ellen met John le Vavasour Noel. They got married in 1833. After their marriage, the family name changed slightly to Vavasour. Ellen and John had seven children together. One of their daughters, also named Ellen, grew up to be a writer too!

Running a School in the United States

Around 1836, Ellen Noel and her family moved to the United States. They lived in Savannah, Georgia. While there, Ellen ran a school for young women. This school was called a seminary. She managed the school for about 11 years, until 1847.

Becoming a Published Author

In 1847, Ellen and her family moved back to Kingston, Canada. It was here that Ellen began to publish her writing.

Her Published Works

Ellen wrote many stories and novels. These were often published in parts, called "serialization," in different magazines and newspapers. She used the name Mrs. JV Noel for her published works. Her stories appeared in popular Canadian publications like the Canadian Illustrated News and the Saturday Reader.

Ellen Kyle Noel passed away in 1873 in Kingston, Ontario. She is remembered as an important Irish Canadian writer who shared her stories with many readers through journals and serialized novels.
