The Elliot Mansion is a really old and important house in Keene, New Hampshire. It's also known today as Elliot Hall or the Elliot Center. This amazing building was built around 1810. People at the time said it was the most beautiful house in the whole town! It's a great example of a building style called Federal period architecture.
This historic house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. This means it's officially recognized as a special place worth protecting. Today, the Elliot Mansion is part of Keene State College. It's used for different college activities and offices.

What Does Elliot Hall Look Like?
Elliot Hall is on the east side of the Keene State College campus. It sits a bit far back from Main Street. This grand building has three stories and is made of strong brick. It has a roof that isn't very steep. The building also has cool granite details.
Main Features of the Mansion
The front of the house is very balanced and even. It has many windows with stone sills and tops. A stone band separates the first and second floors. Another brick design separates the second and third floors.
The main entrance is very fancy! It has windows on the sides of the door. Above the door, there's a beautiful oval-shaped window. A porch with thin columns and a decorative railing covers the entrance. Inside, you can still see the original wooden details and wallpaper. Some walls even have special paintings called murals by an artist named Barry Faulkner.
The Mansion's Interesting History
The Elliot Mansion was built around 1810. A man named William Wyman had it built. He was from Keene and was said to have become rich from working at sea. He also owned a store in the middle of town.
Who Lived in the Elliot Mansion?
William Wyman passed away in 1811, not long after the house was finished. For many years, the house was known for the Elliot family. They lived there from 1845 until about 1892. After the Elliot family moved out, the building was changed into a hospital.
Elliot Hall Today
In 1972, Keene State College bought the building. Now, it's called Elliot Hall. It holds many offices that help students at the college. It's a great example of how old buildings can be used for new purposes!
