Ellis, Ohio facts for kids
Ellis is a small place located in Muskingum County, in the state of Ohio, United States. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it doesn't have its own local government, like a city or a town would. Instead, it's part of the larger county area.
What is the History of Ellis?
Ellis began its story in 1870. At first, it was called Ellis Station. This name came about because it was an important stop, or depot, along the Cincinnati and Muskingum Valley Railroad. Imagine trains stopping right there to drop off and pick up people and goods! The community itself was named after the local Ellis family, who were important in the area.
A few years later, in 1879, a post office was opened in Ellis. This made it much easier for people living there to send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the community for a long time, helping people stay connected, until it finally closed its doors in 1935.
