The Ellis Williams House is a very old and important home. It is located in East Goshen Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania. People also know it as the Spatz Property. This historic house was built in different stages over many years.

A Look at the Ellis Williams House

The Ellis Williams House is a two-story building. It is made of strong stone. The front of the house has four main sections. This design makes it look very grand.

How the House Grew Over Time

The oldest part of the house was built around 1754. It was designed using something called the "Penn Plan." This was a common way to build houses in Pennsylvania back then. It usually meant a simple, square house with two rooms on each floor.

From Small Start to Bigger Home

Historians think the house might even sit on the foundations of an even older building. That first building could have been from 1704! Around 1790, the original house was made much bigger. It became a "four-room house." This means it had four main rooms.

Later Additions and Changes

Later, around 1820, a workshop was added to the house. This was a place for people to work and create things. In 1930, another part was added. Then, in 1997, this newer part was rebuilt. This shows how the house kept changing to fit the needs of the families living there.

A Place in History

The Ellis Williams House is important because of its long history. It shows how homes were built and changed over hundreds of years. Because of its historical value, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004. This list helps protect important buildings across the country.
