Elon is a small, unincorporated community located in Allamakee County, Iowa, in the United States. An unincorporated community means it's a group of homes or buildings that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. It's a quiet place with a bit of history.
A Look Back at Elon's History
Elon has been around for a long time. It even had its own post office! This post office opened way back in 1850. Imagine sending letters from Elon over 170 years ago!
However, the post office eventually closed. It stopped operating in 1907. Over the years, the number of people living in Elon changed. In 1902, there were 17 residents. A few years later, in 1925, the population grew slightly to 18 people. By 1940, the community was very small, with only 5 residents.
