Challenges and Triumphs with Her Books

Elsa Bornemann faced a difficult time in her country's history. During a period from 1976 to 1983, her book Un elefante ocupa mucho espacio (which means "An Elephant Takes Up a Lot of Space") was not allowed to be published or sold. Even though her book was banned, it was still recognized internationally! Un elefante ocupa mucho espacio was placed on the Honor List of the Hans Christian Andersen Award. This was a very special achievement, as Elsa was the first Argentine writer to receive such an honor.
