Elston, Missouri facts for kids
Elston is a small place in Cole County, Missouri, in the United States. It's what we call an unincorporated community. This means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's usually managed by the county government. Elston is located close to the western edge of a bigger city called Jefferson City.
The Story of Elston
Elston was officially started, or "laid out," in the year 1867. It was named after a person named A. M. Elston. He was a "state politician," which means he was someone who worked in the government of the state of Missouri, helping to make laws and decisions for the people.
A place for mail, called a post office, was first set up in the area in 1858. It was originally known as "Elston Station." Later, in 1877, its name was changed to simply "Elston." This post office served the community for many years before it finally closed down in 1972.
