Where is the Embassy of Israel?
The embassy is located at 2 Kensington Palace Gardens. This street is very special because it's also home to Kensington Palace. Many other countries also have their embassies or official buildings here.
This area is part of the Crown Estate, which means it's owned by the British monarch. Security around the embassy is very strict. Taking photos of the building is not allowed.
The Embassy Building's History
The building where the embassy is located is quite old. It was built between 1860 and 1862. A famous writer named William Makepeace Thackeray had it built for himself. He specifically asked for it to be made of red brick.
In 1969, the building was given a special status called "Grade II* listed." This means it's a very important historic building. It has to be protected and kept in good condition because of its history and special design.
Modernizing the Embassy
On March 15, 2010, the Ambassador of Israel at the time, Ron Prosor, announced something exciting. The embassy had gone through a big renovation project. It was like giving the old building a modern makeover inside.
As part of this special event, a room in the building was given a new name. The original Music Room of the Thackeray house was named in honor of a former Ambassador, Shlomo Argov. This was done to remember his important work.
