Emerson is a small place in Ohio that isn't officially a town or city. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that don't have their own local government, like a mayor or city council. Instead, it's usually managed by the larger county government.

Where is Emerson Located?

Emerson is found in Jefferson County, Ohio. It's in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Ohio. The area of Emerson is generally thought to stretch from the edge of Mount Pleasant, Ohio to where two main roads, Route 250 and Route 150, meet. It also includes the area where Jefferson and Belmont 5 roads connect with Pleasant Grove, Ohio, on Route 250. Finally, it extends to where Township Road 128 splits into these roads and Pinewood Drive, which then leads to Harrisville, Ohio.

A Look Back in Time: Emerson's History

Emerson wasn't always called Emerson! It was first known as Trenton. This original settlement was started around the year 1815. Later, in 1882, a post office was opened there, and it was given the name Emerson. This post office helped people send and receive mail for many years, staying open until 1932. Besides the post office, Emerson also had its very own schoolhouse, where children in the community would go to learn.
