Emilio Arrieta facts for kids
Juan Pascual Antonio Arrieta Corera (born October 20, 1821 – died February 11, 1894) was a famous Spanish composer. He was also known as Emilio Arrieta. He was born in Puente la Reina, a town in Navarre, Spain.
Emilio Arrieta studied music in Italy. This training helped him focus on writing operas. An opera is a play where most of the words are sung, usually with an orchestra. Queen Isabel II of Spain supported his work.
Later, he also started composing zarzuelas. A zarzuela is a Spanish type of musical theater. It mixes spoken parts with singing and dancing. Arrieta's zarzuelas were very popular. His most famous zarzuela is Marina. It is one of the most loved musical plays in Spain. Marina has been performed and recorded many times. Arrieta passed away in Madrid when he was 70 years old.
