Elite Gymnastics Career
Junior Years: 2018–2019
eMjae became an "elite gymnast" in early 2018. This means she reached a high level of skill to compete nationally. In July 2018, she competed at the American Classic. She also took part in the 2018 U.S. Classic later that month.
In 2019, eMjae continued to improve. She placed third on vault at the American Classic. The next month, she finished seventh in the "all-around" at the 2019 U.S. Classic. The all-around score combines points from all four gymnastics events. In August, eMjae competed in her first U.S. National Championships. She finished ninth in the all-around. Because of her strong performance, she was chosen for the junior United States women's national gymnastics team. This was a big step in her career! Unfortunately, in November, she had a knee injury, tearing three ligaments.
Senior Years: 2020–2022
eMjae became a senior gymnast in 2020. This meant she was old enough to compete at the highest level. Many competitions were canceled that year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, eMjae was chosen for the Friendship and Solidarity Meet. Her team, the Solidarity Team, won the gold medal!
In 2021, eMjae competed at the 2021 Winter Cup. She also took part in the 2021 U.S. Classic. At the National Championships, she finished 20th in the all-around. She was not selected for the Olympic Trials that year. However, in October, she placed second at the World selection trials. This earned her a spot to compete at the 2021 World Championships. She was also added back to the national team. At the World Championships, she performed well on floor exercise and uneven bars.
eMjae started 2022 strong at the 2022 Winter Cup. She placed third in the all-around competition. This led to her being selected for the DTB Pokal Team Challenge in Germany. Her team won first place at this event! In April, eMjae competed at the 2022 City of Jesolo Trophy in Italy. Her team won the gold medal there too. She also earned a silver medal on the floor exercise.
