About Emma Clayton

Emma Clayton moved around a lot as a child. Her dad was in the Royal Air Force. When she was seven, her dad passed away.

When she was a teenager, Emma learned to be a field archaeologist. This means she helped dig up old things. She also worked for a short time as a freelance illustrator, drawing pictures for different projects. In her mid-twenties, she went back to school. She studied film and how to write movie scripts.

Emma wrote her first novel when she was 26 years old, after her daughter was born. A few years later, she wrote The Roar. She was studying Visual Communications at the time.

Her Books

Emma Clayton's first book, The Roar, came out in 2008 in the United Kingdom. It was published in the United States in 2009. The sequel, The Whisper, was released in 2012.

Both The Roar and The Whisper tell the story of twins named Mika and Ellie. They were separated and live on a planet surrounded by a big wall. This world is full of secrets and lies. The twins use a special government plan to try and find each other.

Awards and Recognition

Emma Clayton's books have received several honors:

  • The Roar won the Yorkshire Coast Book Award in 2010.
