Emmanuel AME Church, also known as Deliverance Temple Holy Church, is a very old and important church building. It is located in Durham, North Carolina. This church is part of the African Methodist Episcopal faith.
The building was constructed way back in 1888. It was designed in a style called Gothic Revival. This style often includes pointed arches and tall windows, like old castles or cathedrals. The church's walls are very thick, about 30 inches! In 1962, these walls were covered with a special plaster called stucco.
The land for the church and the bricks used to build it were given by Richard B. Fitzgerald. He was a well-known African American who made bricks.
The Emmanuel AME Church was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. This means it is recognized as a special place in American history.
