Growing Up and Early Sports
Emosi Koloto grew up in a place called Manawatu in New Zealand. He went to high school at Palmerston North Boys' High School. This is where he started to show his amazing talent in sports.
Rugby Union Journey
In 1983, Emosi was chosen to play for the New Zealand national schoolboy rugby union team. This was a big achievement for a young player. From 1984 to 1986, he played for the Manawatu team. He also played for New Zealand Universities in 1985. In 1986, he was selected to play for the Tonga national team in rugby union.
In 1987, Koloto moved to play for the Wellington team. He made a great start, scoring two tries in his very first game with them.
Switching to Rugby League
After playing rugby union, Emosi Koloto decided to try a different sport: rugby league. He signed with the Widnes team, which was coached by Doug Laughton. Laughton had seen Koloto play and was very impressed.
Success with Widnes
Emosi Koloto quickly became a key player for Widnes. He was known for his strong tackling and for being good with the ball. He helped the Widnes team win the League Championship in his first season (1988-89). He also helped them win two Premiership Trophy Finals in 1988-89 and 1989-90.
He played in the 1990 Lancashire Cup Final in 1990, where Widnes beat Salford. He also played in the 1988–89 John Player Special Trophy Final in 1989.
Playing for New Zealand
In 1991, Emosi Koloto was chosen to play for the New Zealand national rugby league team. He played in five international matches, including a three-game series against Australia. He was a starting player in all three of those important games.
He had a chance to play in Australia for a team called Manly, but he was chosen by another team, North Sydney. Emosi decided not to play in Sydney and returned to New Zealand.
