About the Endeavour Award
How the Award Started
The Endeavour Award began in 1999. Its name comes from a famous ship, the HM Bark Endeavour. This ship was sailed by explorer Captain James Cook in the Pacific Northwest. A group of writers and readers in Portland, Oregon, started gathering money for the award in 1996. A group called Oregon Science Fiction Conventions, Inc. (OSFCI) now manages the award. This group is a non-profit organization.
