The Engine Company 16 Fire Station is a cool old building. It's also called the Blue Hills Fire Station. You can find it in Hartford, Connecticut, at 636 Blue Hills Avenue. This fire station was built in 1928. It stands out because of its unique design.
The building looks like a Tudor Revival style. A local company called Ebbets & Frid designed it. On March 2, 1989, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's an important historical building. Today, it still works as a fire station. It is home to Engine Company 16 of the Hartford Fire Department.
What Does the Fire Station Look Like?
The Engine Company 16 Fire Station is in Hartford's northern Blue Hills neighborhood. It sits on the east side of Blue Hills Avenue. This building has two stories. It is made of brick with stone details. The roof is sloped, and there are chimneys on each end.
The station has two large openings for fire trucks. These are called equipment bays. There are doors for people on either side of these bays. The building also has parts that stick out on the sides. The left side has two windows. The right side has three windows.
Inside, the station is quite simple. The first floor has a special room for the fire trucks. It has a tiled floor. Upstairs, there's a sleeping area for firefighters. You can also see two shiny brass poles. Firefighters use these poles to slide down quickly.
History of the Fire Station
The city started Engine Company 16 in 1928. This was the same year the fire station was built. The Hartford company Ebbets and Frid designed the building. This fire station is special among Hartford's fire stations. It has lots of fancy details on the outside.
