The Rand's Túngara Frog (scientific name: Engystomops randi) is a small frog. It belongs to a group of frogs called the Leptodactylidae family. This special frog is only found in western Ecuador, a country in South America. This means it is endemic to that area. It lives nowhere else in the world!

Where Does It Live?

Rand's Túngara Frogs like to live in different kinds of places. They can be found in lowland forests where trees lose their leaves in some seasons (deciduous forests). They also live in forests where trees stay green all year (evergreen forests).

These frogs are quite adaptable. They can also live in areas changed by people. You might find them in open fields like pastures. They sometimes live near buildings or on farms. This includes places like flooded rice fields and banana plantations.

How Rand's Túngara Frogs Reproduce

These frogs breed when it's rainy season. They look for small pools of water to lay their eggs. A very interesting thing about these frogs is how they protect their eggs. The female frog creates a special floating foam nest. This foamy home keeps the eggs safe until they hatch.

Is It Endangered?

The Rand's Túngara Frog is listed as "Least Concern" by the IUCN. This means that scientists believe it is not currently in danger of disappearing. It is a common frog in the areas where it lives.
