About the Enosburg Opera House
The Enosburg Opera House stands in the middle of Enosburg Falls village. You can find it on the north side of Depot Street. It's a big, rectangular building made of wood. It has one main floor built on top of a tall basement with a strong stone base.
What Does It Look Like?
A tall, square tower rises from one corner of the building. This tower is about three and a half stories high. It makes the Opera House easy to spot in the village. The roof is a mix of a gable and a hip style. The outside walls are covered with wooden boards called clapboards. The main door is set back into the front of the building. This entrance leads down to the basement level.
A Gift to the Town
The B.J. Kendall Company built the opera house in 1892. It was a gift to the town of Enosburg. B.J. Kendall was a local pharmacist who became very rich. He made and sold medicines for horses. The company officially gave the building to the town in 1894.
A Place for Meetings and Shows
Since 1894, the Enosburg Opera House has been the place for the town's official meetings. It is still used as a performance space today. Famous people have performed there over the years. For example, John Philip Sousa, a very famous band leader, performed there a long time ago.
