This article is a list of these important spots in Franklin County. They are all recognized on something called the National Register of Historic Places. This is like a special "hall of fame" for places in the United States that are important to history, architecture, or culture. When a place is on this list, it means it's worth protecting so future generations can learn from it.

Franklin County's Historic Treasures
Franklin County is full of amazing historic places! These sites are listed on the National Register of Historic Places because they are important parts of our history and heritage. From old farms to historic bridges and schools, each one has a unique story.
Buildings and Homes with History
Many of Franklin County's historic listings are buildings and homes. These structures show us how people lived and worked in the past.
- The Ballard Farm in Georgia was listed in 1993. It's a great example of an old farm that has been preserved.
- The Billado Block in Enosburgh is a historic building on Main Street, added to the list in 2007.
- The Sheldon Boright House in Richford, listed in 1989, is another example of a historic home.
- Brigham Academy in Bakersfield was listed in 1995. It's an old academy building that played a role in education.
- The Central Vermont Railroad Headquarters in St. Albans became historic in 1974. This area was once the busy center for a major railroad!
- The Community Baptist Church and Parsonage in Montgomery was added in 2015. It shows the history of faith in the area.
- The District No. 2 School and District No. 8 School in Georgia are old schoolhouses, listed in 2000 and 1998. They remind us of how kids used to go to school.
- The Enosburg Opera House in Enosburg Falls, listed in 1978, was a place for entertainment and community gatherings.
- The Evarts-McWilliams House in Georgia was listed in 1982 and is now a bed and breakfast!
- The Fairfield Street School in St. Albans was added in 1996.
- The Giroux Furniture Company Building in St. Albans was listed in 2006. It tells a story about local businesses.
- The Solomon Goodrich Homestead in Georgia became historic in 2004.
- Hathaway's Tavern in St. Albans is a very old house, listed in 1983. It was even used as a courthouse before a proper one was built!
- The Houghton House in St. Albans was listed way back in 1972.
- The Kemp-Shepard House in Georgia was added in 1997.
- The Dr. B. J. Kendall Company building in Enosburgh was listed in 1993.
- L'Ecole Saintes-Anges in St. Albans was a school, listed in 1980.
- The Montgomery House in Montgomery was listed in 1992.
- The Richford Primary School and Sweat-Comings Company House in Richford were both listed in 2004.
- The Richwood Estate and Rockledge in Swanton are historic estates, listed in 1988 and 1994.
- The St. Albans Town Hall in St. Albans was listed in 1996.
- The Swanton School in Swanton was added in 2002.
- The Warner Home in St. Albans was listed in 1988.
- The West Berkshire School in Berkshire was listed in 1993.
- The F.W. Wheeler House in Richford was added in 2004.
- The Willard Manufacturing Company Building in St. Albans was listed in 2006.
Historic Churches
Several churches in Franklin County are also on the National Register, showing the importance of community and faith throughout history.
- The Enosburg Congregational Memorial Church in Enosburgh was listed in 2001.
- The First Congregational Church of Swanton and the Methodist Episcopal Church in Swanton were both listed in 2001.
- The Fletcher Union Church in Fletcher was added in 1982.
- The Georgia Plain Baptist Church in Georgia was listed in 2001.
- The Parish of the Holy Trinity in Swanton was listed in 2001.
- St. Ann's Episcopal Church in Richford was added in 2001.
- St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church in Montgomery was listed in 1988 and is now known as Pratt Hall.
- St. George's Catholic Church in Bakersfield was listed in 2001.
- St. John's Episcopal Church in Highgate Falls, Highgate, was added in 1976.
Bridges and Districts
Franklin County also has historic bridges and entire districts that are recognized for their importance.
- Bridge 9 in Sheldon and Bridge 12 in Enosburgh were both listed in 2007.
- The Comstock Covered Bridge in Montgomery was listed in 1974. Covered bridges are a classic part of Vermont's landscape!
- The Douglas & Jarvis Patent Parabolic Truss Iron Bridge in Highgate was listed in 1974. This is a special type of iron bridge.
- The Downtown Richford Historic District in Richford was listed in 1980. This means a whole area of the town is historically important.
- The East Fairfield Covered Bridge in Fairfield was added in 1974.
- The Fairfax Covered Bridge (also known as Maple Street Covered Bridge) in Fairfax was listed in 1974.
- The Fuller Covered Bridge, Hectorville Covered Bridge, Hutchins Covered Bridge, Longley Covered Bridge, and West Hill Covered Bridge are all historic covered bridges in Montgomery, listed in 1974. The Hectorville bridge is being repaired, and the West Hill bridge was restored in 2009!
- The Hopkins Covered Bridge in Enosburgh was listed in 1974.
- The Missisquoi River Bridge in Richford was listed in 1990.
- The St. Albans Historic District in St. Albans was listed in 1980, recognizing its historical significance.
- The Swanton Covered Railroad Bridge in Swanton was listed in 1973 but was sadly destroyed in 1987.
- The U.S. Inspection Station-East Richford, Vermont, U.S. Inspection Station-Richford, Vermont, and U.S. Inspection Station-West Berkshire, Vermont are historic border stations, all listed in 2014. They played a role in controlling who and what crossed the border.
