He lived here in Dummerston and found inspiration for his stories in the peaceful Vermont countryside. This house is a must-see for anyone who loves books and history. It was added to the list on April 11, 1979.

Rockingham Meeting House

The Rockingham Meeting House in Rockingham is a very old and rare church building from the 1700s. It's a great example of how meeting houses were built a long time ago in New England. These buildings were not just for church services; they were also places where the community gathered for town meetings and other important events. This meeting house became a National Historic Landmark on September 10, 1979.

Amazing Covered Bridges

  • Bartonsville Covered Bridge: This bridge in Rockingham crosses the Williams River. Sadly, it was destroyed by a big flood in 2011 but was rebuilt in 2012, showing how much people cared about it! It was first listed on July 2, 1973.
  • Green River Covered Bridge: Located in Green River, this bridge crosses the Green River. It's a beautiful spot that was added to the list on August 28, 1973.
  • Hall Covered Bridge: West of Bellows Falls, this bridge also crosses the Saxtons River. It collapsed in 1980 but was rebuilt in 1982 to look just like the original. It was listed on August 28, 1973.
  • Kidder Covered Bridge: Found southeast of Grafton, this bridge is another charming example of old bridge building. It was listed on July 2, 1973.
  • Creamery Covered Bridge: West of Brattleboro, this bridge was added to the list on August 28, 1973.
  • West Dummerston Covered Bridge: This bridge in Dummerston crosses the West River. It was listed on May 8, 1973.
  • Williamsville Covered Bridge: Southwest of Newfane, this bridge was added on August 14, 1973.
  • Worrall Covered Bridge: North of Rockingham, this bridge crosses the Williams River. It was listed on July 16, 1973.

  • Canal Street Schoolhouse: In Brattleboro, this schoolhouse on Canal Street was listed on August 19, 1977.
  • District No. 1 Schoolhouse: This schoolhouse in Somerset was listed on April 20, 1992.

  • Grafton District Schoolhouse No. 2: In Grafton, this building also served as a fire station for many years! It was listed on August 11, 2005.
  • Vernon District Schoolhouse No. 4: This schoolhouse in Vernon was listed on November 9, 2005.

  • Bellows Falls Downtown Historic District: This area in Bellows Falls includes many streets with historic buildings. It was listed on August 16, 1982.
  • Brattleboro Downtown Historic District: The main street and surrounding areas in Brattleboro are part of this district, listed on February 17, 1983.
  • Grafton Village Historic District: The charming village of Grafton has its own historic district, listed on April 7, 2010.
  • Newfane Village Historic District: The village center of Newfane was listed on July 21, 1983.

  • Estey Organ Company Factory: In Brattleboro, this factory made famous organs. It was listed on April 17, 1980.

  • Union Station (Brattleboro, Vermont): This old train station in Brattleboro was listed on June 7, 1974. It's a reminder of how people used to travel.
