Fairfield is a small town in Franklin County, Vermont, in the United States. It was officially started in 1763. In 2020, about 2,044 people lived here. A very important person, President Chester A. Arthur, was born in Fairfield in 1829. He lived in the town for his first three years. Today, you can visit a special place called the Chester Alan Arthur State Historic Site, which is a copy of his childhood home. It's open during certain times of the year.

Fairfield's Location and Land
Fairfield is located in the middle of Franklin County. It is found just east of St. Albans. Vermont Route 36 is a main road that goes through the town from east to west.
The town covers a total area of about 177.4 square kilometers (about 68.5 square miles). Most of this area, 174.6 square kilometers (67.4 square miles), is land. The rest, about 2.9 square kilometers (1.1 square miles), is water.
Black Creek flows north through the town. This creek eventually joins the Missisquoi River. Fairfield Pond is a body of water located in the northwest part of the town.
Fairfield has many rolling hills. These hills are used for growing crops like hay and corn. They also provide pasture for dairy farms. Many maple trees grow in the town's forests. People tap these trees to collect sap and make delicious maple syrup.
