Enriqueta Vila Vilar was born in Seville, a city in Spain, in 1935. She loved history and studied it very hard. In 1972, she earned a special degree called a PhD from the University of Seville. A PhD is the highest university degree you can get. Her PhD was in the History of the Americas.
Working as a Historian
After her studies, Enriqueta worked as a research lecturer. This means she taught and also did important research. She worked at a place called the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC). This is a big science research organization in Spain.
Role in Local Government
From 1991 to 1995, Enriqueta also helped run her city. She was a municipal councillor for Seville. A municipal councillor is like a local politician who helps make decisions for the city. She represented a group called the Andalucist Party. During this time, she was in charge of the city's culture department.
Joining Important Academies
Enriqueta Vila Vilar has been recognized for her amazing work. In 1995, she became the first woman to be a full member of the Real Academia Sevillana de Buenas Letras. This is a very old and respected group that studies literature and history in Seville. She even led this group as its director from 2011 to 2014.
In 2012, she was chosen to join another very important group: the Royal Academy of History. This is one of the most important history academies in Spain. She gave a special speech when she joined, talking about how Spain influenced the Americas.
