Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Equity is a small place in Washington County, which is in the state of Ohio in the United States. It's called an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or a town does. Instead, it's usually managed by the county government.

History of Equity

Equity got its name when a post office was opened there in 1888. A post office is a place where people can send and receive letters and packages. This post office helped the people living in Equity stay connected with others. It operated for about 14 years, closing down in 1902.

A person named Howell S. Devol was the postmaster, which is the person in charge of the post office. His family, the Devol family, were important early settlers, often called pioneers, in the area. They were also involved in starting another nearby community called Devola.
