Sir Eric Paul McClintock (born September 13, 1918 – died March 27, 2018) was an important Australian public servant and a successful businessman. He was best known for being the chairman of Woolworths Limited, a big supermarket company, from 1980 to 1987.

Early Life and Education
Eric McClintock was born on September 13, 1918, in a town called Gulgong, in New South Wales, Australia. His father owned a newspaper. Eric went to school at De La Salle College in Armidale. Later, he continued his studies at the University of Sydney.
Career Highlights
Eric McClintock started his career working for the Australian Navy from 1935 to 1947. He helped manage supplies for the navy.
Working for Australia's Trade
After his time with the Navy, Eric joined the Australian Trade Commissioner Service. This meant he helped Australia trade with other countries. He worked in Washington, D.C., in the United States. In 1948, he became an Assistant Trade Commissioner in New York.
In 1951, he returned to Australia. He became the Director of Trade Promotion in the Department of Commerce and Agriculture. He also helped write speeches for John McEwen, who later became Australia's Prime Minister. Eric was a top official in the Department of Trade from 1958 to 1961.
Leading Woolworths
After working for the government, Eric McClintock became the chairman of Woolworths Limited. This was from 1980 to 1987. During his time as chairman, Woolworths bought other companies. These included the electronics store Dick Smith and the supermarket chain Safeway in Victoria.
He also helped introduce the famous "Fresh Food People" slogan for Woolworths. This slogan is still used today.
Other Important Roles
Sir Eric McClintock was also a director on the boards of several other companies and organizations. These included Ashton Mining and the Asia Pacific Space Centre Advisory Board. He also served as a Commissioner for Medicare Australia from 2004 to 2005.
Personal Life
Eric McClintock was married to Lady Eve. They were married in 1943 and stayed together until her death in 2013. They had three children:
- Paul, who became a chairman of big companies like Myer and Medibank Private.
- Leigh, who followed his father into the Department of Trade.
- Marjorie, an architect.
Eric McClintock passed away in Sydney on March 27, 2018. He was 99 years old.
Honours and Recognition
In 1981, Eric McClintock was given a special honour. He was knighted, which means he received the title "Sir." This was for his great work in helping Australia's exports and industries.
