Erland Josephson (born 15 June 1923 – died 25 February 2012) was a talented Swedish actor and author. He was well-known around the world for his roles in movies made by famous directors. These directors included Ingmar Bergman, Andrei Tarkovsky, and Theodoros Angelopoulos.

Erland Josephson was born in 1923 in Stockholm, Sweden. His father was Gunnar August Josephson, a bookseller.
Director of the Royal Dramatic Theatre
Josephson was a very important person in Swedish theater. He was the head of the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm. He held this important job from 1966 to 1975.
Author and Filmmaker
Besides acting, Erland Josephson was also a writer. He wrote many books, short stories, and poems. He also wrote plays for the stage.
He even directed some movies himself. In 1980, he directed a film called Marmalade Revolution. He also starred in this movie. It was shown at a big film festival in Berlin.

In 1986, Josephson acted in a movie called The Sacrifice. For his amazing acting in this film, he won an award. He received the Best Actor award at the 22nd Guldbagge Awards.
