Ermelinda Meksi is an important Albanian politician. She held many different jobs in the government of Albania between 1997 and 2005. She made history as the first woman to become Deputy Prime Minister. This was the highest government job a woman had held in Albania at that time.

About Ermelinda Meksi
Ermelinda Meksi studied at the University of Tirana. She finished her first degree in 1979. Later, she earned a special degree called a PhD in economics from the same university. For many years, she worked as a professor. She taught students about economics at the university.
Her Start in Politics
In 1992, Ermelinda Meksi was chosen to be a Member of Parliament. This means she was elected by people to represent them in the country's main law-making group. She kept this important job until November 2011.
Key Government Roles
During the time the Socialist Party was in charge of the government, she held several big jobs. From 1997 to 1998, she was the Minister of State for Foreign Assistance and Development. This role involved managing help and support from other countries.
After that, she became the Minister of Economy. She held this position until 2002. As Minister of Economy, she helped manage Albania's money and business matters.
Becoming Deputy Prime Minister
In June 2003, Ermelinda Meksi was given an even higher role. She was appointed as Deputy Prime Minister. This was part of a new government led by Fatos Nano. She served in this role until December 2003.
Right after that, she took on another new and important job. She became the Minister of European Integration. This was a brand new ministry. Its main goal was to help Albania work closely with European countries. It also helped Albania get ready to join the European Union.
Later Career
Ermelinda Meksi continued to be a Member of Parliament until 2011. Her time as a Member of Parliament ended when she was chosen for a new role. She became a member of the Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania. This council helps oversee how the country's central bank works.
