Ernest Fouinet (born in 1799 in Nantes, died in 1845 in Paris) was a French writer and poet from the 1800s. He was known for his poems, novels, and especially his books for young people.

About Ernest Fouinet

Ernest Fouinet was a smart and busy man. He worked at the French Ministry of Finance, which is like a government department that handles money. Even though he had a job there, he used his free time to learn and translate.

He was also a member of the Société Asiatique in Paris. This group focused on studying Asian cultures and languages. Fouinet was very good at languages! He translated poems and stories from many different languages, including Arabic, Sanskrit, and Malay. He also translated famous English books into French.

Fouinet didn't just translate. He also wrote for popular magazines and journals of his time. After spending time on his language studies, he would relax by writing romantic short stories and books for young readers.

Famous writers like Victor Hugo and Sainte-Beuve admired Fouinet's talent. Victor Hugo even used some of Fouinet's translations from Arabic and Persian in his own famous book, Orientales. Sainte-Beuve, another well-known writer, dedicated one of his poems to Fouinet, showing how much he respected his work.
