About Espido Freire
When she was younger, Espido Freire loved classical music. She spent time studying and playing it. Later, she went to the University of Deusto. There, she earned a degree in English language and literature. She also studied how to edit books.
Her First Books
Espido Freire started her writing career in 1998. Her first novel was called Irlanda. This book became very popular. It was translated into many different languages. The French version of Irlanda even won a special award in France called the Millepage Prize.
In 1999, Espido Freire won the Premio Planeta award. She won it for her novel Melocotones helados. This was a big achievement because she was the youngest writer ever to win this important award. Her books have been translated into many languages, including French, German, and Japanese.
Teaching and Other Interests
Espido Freire enjoys teaching others how to write. She has taught creative writing at different universities. She also cares a lot about animal rights. For example, she spoke at a meeting in the Parliament of Catalonia. This meeting was about stopping bullfighting to protect animals.
