About Espido Freire
Espido Freire spent her younger years studying and playing classical music. She later earned a degree in English language studies from the University of Deusto. She also studied for a master's degree in editing there.
Her First Books
Espido Freire's first novel was Irlanda, published in 1998. This book was translated into many different languages. The French version of Irlanda even won a special award called the Millepage Prize in France.
In 1999, she won the important Premio Planeta award for her novel Melocotones helados. She was the youngest writer ever to win this big literary prize.
Her novels have been translated into many languages. These include French, German, Turkish, Dutch, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Chinese, and Japanese.
Teaching and Helping Animals
Espido Freire enjoys teaching others how to write. She has taught creative writing at several universities.
In 2007, she won another award, the Premio Ateneo de Sevilla, for her novel Soria Moria.
