Estelle is a community in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, in the United States. It's a "census-designated place" (CDP), which means it's an area identified by the U.S. Census Bureau for gathering population data. It is not an officially incorporated town or city. In 2020, about 17,952 people lived there. Estelle is part of the larger New Orleans area.
Estelle is located just south of Marrero. The two communities are very close. Some businesses in Estelle even use "Marrero" in their addresses. The Jean Lafitte National Park Barataria Preserve, a beautiful natural area, is right next to Estelle.

History of Estelle
Part of the Isleño Barataria Settlement was in the southern area of what is now Estelle. The Isleños were people from the Canary Islands who settled in Louisiana during the colonial era. Later, Estelle became the home of the transmitter for WWL-AM, a radio station.
Geography and Location
Estelle is located at 29°50′51″N 90°6′29″W / 29.84750°N 90.10806°W. It shares a border to the north with Marrero. To the east, it borders Woodmere.
Estelle is about 12 miles (19 km) by highway from downtown New Orleans. In a straight line, it's about 7 miles (11 km) southwest of downtown New Orleans. The community covers a total area of about 4.65 square miles (12.04 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a very small part being water.

Schools Serving Estelle
Several schools serve different parts of Estelle. These include K-8 schools like Allen Ellender, Estelle, Congetta Trippe Janet, and Harry Truman. Some areas in the northern part of Estelle are assigned to Pittman Elementary and Marrero Middle School.
Most high school students from Estelle attend John Ehret High School. However, some students are assigned to L.W. Higgins High School in Marrero. For advanced studies, residents are zoned to the Marrero Academy.
In the past, school assignments were a bit different. For example, Ellender used to be only a middle school. Also, Miller Wall Elementary in Marrero used to serve some parts of Estelle.
