Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Estes is a small, quiet place in the southwestern part of Pike County, Missouri, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's managed by the county.

Where is Estes?

Estes is located along Missouri Route Y, a road that helps people get around the area. If you were driving from Bowling Green, Missouri, Estes would be about eleven miles southwest. To give you an idea of its height, the land in Estes is about 738 feet above sea level. This measurement is called its elevation.

A Look Back in Time: The History of Estes

Estes has a simple but interesting history. The community got its name from a local person, a merchant (someone who sells goods) named Mr. Estes.

In 1886, a post office was opened in Estes. A post office was a very important place back then, as it was where people sent and received letters and packages. It also often served as a central meeting spot for the community. This post office served the people of Estes for about 20 years, closing its doors in 1906.
