Etsuko Ichihara (市原 悦子, Ichihara Etsuko, 24 January 1936 – 12 January 2019) was a famous Japanese actress. She started acting in 1957. She joined a theater group called Haiyuza. She played Shigeko Shizuma in the movie Black Rain. She was also the voice of Hitoha Miyamizu in Your Name. She acted in over 100 movies during her long career.
Etsuko Ichihara was born in Chiba, Japan. Her first movie was called Rikō na oyomesan. She won an award in 1959 for her acting in Chidori. This made her a big star in the Haiyuza group. She left Haiyuza in 1971.
In 1990, she won a special award. It was the Japan Academy Prize for Best Supporting Actress. She won it for her role in Black Rain. Her husband, Satoshi Shiomi, was a movie director. He passed away in 2014.
Etsuko Ichihara went to the hospital in December 2018. She had some health problems. She got better and even appeared on a TV show in Japan. She left the hospital but went back a few days later. She sadly passed away on January 12, 2019. She was 82 years old.
