Eugène-Ghislain-Alfred Demolder (born December 16, 1862 – died October 8, 1919) was a famous Belgian writer. He wrote many novels, short stories, and also worked as an art critic.
He is best known for his romantic novel called Le jardinier de la Pompadour. This translates to Madame de Pompadour's Gardener. His writing style was special because he used symbolism. This means he used objects or ideas to represent deeper meanings. He was also good at creating a strong mood or "ambience" in his stories.
Eugène Demolder was part of a group called La Jeune Belgique, which means The Young Belgium. This group had a magazine that helped start a new wave of literature in Belgium. They wanted to make Belgian writing more modern. Demolder wrote art reviews for this magazine. He even wrote about the artist James Ensor in 1892.
Demolder was born in Sint-Jans-Molenbeek, Belgium. He later passed away in Corbeil-Essonnes, France. He married Claire Dulac-Rops. Her father was Félicien Rops, a well-known Belgian artist.
