Eukanuba is a well-known brand that makes special food for dogs and cats. It is owned by two big companies: Mars, Incorporated takes care of it in most parts of the world, and Spectrum Brands handles it in Europe. Before 2014, another company called Procter & Gamble owned Eukanuba. Eukanuba makes many different types of food, with 17 kinds for dogs and 13 for cats.
In April 2014, Procter & Gamble (P&G) announced they would sell their pet food brands, including Eukanuba. They sold these brands to Mars, Incorporated for about $2.9 billion. This deal helped P&G focus on other parts of their business. The sale for North and Latin America was finished in August 2014. Mars, Inc. also bought P&G's pet food business in parts of Asia Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa. This included countries like Australia, Japan, and Singapore. Later, in December 2014, P&G sold its European pet care business to Spectrum Brands.

The Story of Eukanuba
How the Brand Began
The Eukanuba brand started in 1969. A person named Paul Iams, who also created the Iams pet food, wanted to make a new and special food. He wanted this new food to be different from his other products.
What "Eukanuba" Means
Paul Iams chose the name "Eukanuba" for this new food. This word came from a famous jazz musician named Hoagy Carmichael. For him, "Eukanuba" meant "the tops" or "something supreme." It was a way to say something was the best.
How Eukanuba Food is Made
Inside the Factory
One of the main places where Eukanuba food is made is a factory in Leipsic, Ohio. When Procter & Gamble owned Eukanuba, this factory was their biggest dog food plant.
Keeping Food Safe
To make sure the food is safe, the factory uses special tools. Metal detectors are used to find any small metal pieces that might have accidentally fallen into the food. Each bag of food has numbers printed on it. These numbers show the exact day and hour the food was made. This helps the company track the food if there is ever a need to recall it.
What's in the Food
Eukanuba products use ingredients from both animals and animal by-products. Animal by-products are parts of animals that are not usually eaten by people, like lungs, spleen, kidneys, and liver. They also include bones and certain fatty tissues. These by-products do not include things like hair, horns, teeth, or hooves. Most of the ingredients come from the United States. However, some special vitamins and minerals are brought in from other countries, like China.
Eukanuba and Sports Events
Sponsoring Dog Shows
Eukanuba has been a big supporter of dog shows. For many years, it was the main sponsor of the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship. This is a very important dog show where top dogs compete. Eukanuba stopped being the main sponsor in December 2015.
The Eukanuba World Challenge
In 2008, the dog show started a new event called the Eukanuba World Challenge. This event brought together dogs from all over the world to compete.
Other Sports Sponsorships
Eukanuba also sponsors other exciting events. It supports the Teva Mountain Games, which are outdoor sports competitions. In July 2015, Eukanuba became the main sponsor for the Eukanuba Stage Stop Race in Jackson, Wyoming. This is a famous sled dog race that used to be called the International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race.
New Sponsorship for Dog Shows
In December 2016, another company called Royal Canin took over the sponsorship of the AKC National Championship. Royal Canin is a sister company to Eukanuba. The show was then renamed the "AKC National Championship presented by Royal Canin."
