Eulogius (born Yuri Vasilyevich Smirnov) was an important leader in the Russian Orthodox Church. He was born on January 13, 1937, and passed away on July 22, 2020.
From 1990 to 2018, he served as a bishop in the Diocese of Vladimir. This is a special area managed by a bishop. Eulogius became a Doctor of Theology in 2014. This means he had a very high degree in religious studies. In 2006, he was also named an Honorary Citizen of the city of Vladimir.

Yuri Vasilyevich Smirnov was born in Kemerovo, a city in Russia. His family was a working-class family. His father worked as a plumber, and his mother was a cook.
Yuri was one of many children in his family. He had six brothers and three sisters, making them a large family of ten children! Because she raised so many children, his mother received a special award called "Mother Heroine." This award honored mothers who had many children and raised them well.
