Euphorbia tannensis subsp. tannensis is a type of plant that grows as a small bush or herb. You can find it naturally in Australia and on some Pacific islands.
About the Plant
This plant usually grows as a compact shrub, reaching up to 60 centimeters (about 2 feet) tall. It is known for its green leaves.
You can tell this plant apart from its close relative, Euphorbia tannensis subsp. eremophila, by looking at its leaves. Euphorbia tannensis subsp. tannensis has wider leaves. They are not much longer than they are wide. In contrast, the leaves of E. tannensis subsp. eremophila are much longer and narrower.
Where It Lives
This plant subspecies grows in Australia and on several Pacific islands. In Australia, it is found mainly along the northern and eastern coastlines.
How It Was Named
The plant was first described by a scientist named Curt Polycarp Joachim Sprengel in 1809. The full scientific name, Euphorbia tannensis subsp. tannensis, was officially recognized later, in 1977. This happened when another subspecies, E. tannensis subsp. eremophila, was also named.
