The European Forest Institute (EFI) is an international group. It was created by countries in Europe. EFI helps these countries work together on important forest topics.

It has 30 member countries. Also, about 130 other organizations from 40 countries are members. These groups do lots of different research about forests.

EFI's main office, called its headquarters, is in Joensuu, Finland. They also have offices in other cities. These include Barcelona, Bonn, and Brussels. There is even an office in Malaysia for their work in Asia. More than 100 people work for EFI.

Countries That Are Members

As of spring 2022, 30 European countries have officially joined EFI. These countries signed a special agreement called a Convention. The member countries are Austria, Belgium, and Bulgaria. Also, Croatia, Czech Republic, and Denmark are members. Estonia, Finland, France, and Germany are part of it too. Greece, Ireland, Italy, and Latvia are members. Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, and Norway also joined. Poland, Portugal, Romania, and Serbia are included. Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden are members. Finally, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom are members. Each of these countries has a say in EFI's main decisions. They have a seat on the EFI Council.

Other Member Groups

EFI also has about 130 other member organizations. These groups come from over 40 different countries. Being a member has many good things. These groups can vote on important decisions. They can also connect with other forest experts. Members get news and updates about forest research in Europe. Their work can be shown on EFI's website. They can also get EFI's publications. Sometimes, they can share their own news through EFI.

What EFI Does

EFI helps governments with ideas about forests. They also help people connect and work together on forest topics. EFI shares true and useful information about forests.
