Eva Miranda Galcerán is a Spanish mathematician. She is known for her work on how things change over time, which is called dynamical systems. She also studies a special area of math called symplectic geometry. This type of geometry helps us understand shapes and spaces in a unique way. Her research includes working with another mathematician, Victor Guillemin, on the math behind the three-body problem. This problem helps explain how planets and stars move in space.

Eva Miranda's Journey in Education
Eva Miranda started her higher education at the University of Barcelona. In 1999, she earned her first degree in algebra and geometry. These are important branches of mathematics.
She continued her studies at the same university. In 2003, she completed her Ph.D. A Ph.D. is the highest university degree you can get. Her special research project was about "symplectic linearization of singular Lagrangian foliations." Her professor, Carlos Currás Bosch, guided her work.
Her Career in Mathematics
After finishing her Ph.D., Eva Miranda began teaching. From 2001 to 2006, she was an assistant professor at the University of Barcelona. She also worked as a researcher at the University of Toulouse in France from 2004 to 2007.
Later, she became a "Juan de la Cierva Researcher" at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. This was from 2007 to 2009. In 2009, she joined the mathematics department at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. She became a Full Professor there in 2018. Since 2016, she has led the Laboratory of Geometry and Dynamical Systems at the Polytechnic University. This lab is where scientists study how shapes and movements work together.
Awards and Special Recognition
Eva Miranda has received many important awards for her work.
ICREA Acadèmia Award
In 2016, she won the Acadèmia Award from the Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies (ICREA). This award recognized her excellent research. Because of this, she became an ICREA Acadèmia Professor at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in 2017. She won this same award again in 2021. This made her the first mathematician in Catalonia to receive the ICREA Acadèmia prize twice!
International Recognition
In 2017, Eva Miranda made history. She became the first Spanish mathematician to win a Chair of Excellence from the Fondation Sciences Mathématiques de Paris. She was also only the second woman to receive this honor.
In July 2021, she was invited to speak at the 8th European Congress of Mathematics. This is a very important event for mathematicians from all over Europe.
She also received the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award in 2022. This award came from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. In 2023, she was chosen as the London Mathematical Society Hardy lecturer. This is a special lecture series given by leading mathematicians. In December 2022, she was awarded the Francois Deruyts Prize by the Académie Royale de Belgique.
