Eva Moser (born July 26, 1982 – died March 31, 2019) was a very talented Austrian chess player. She earned two important titles from FIDE, the world chess organization: Woman Grandmaster (WGM) in 2003 and International Master (IM) in 2004. Eva Moser was a champion in Austria, winning both the main Austrian chess championship and the women's championship. She also played in the Women's World Chess Championship in 2008.

Eva Moser's Amazing Chess Journey
How Eva Started Playing Chess
Eva Moser began playing chess when she was 10 years old. She quickly became very good at the game. As a young player, she won the Austrian chess championship for girls eight times in different age groups. This showed how dedicated and skilled she was from a young age.
Winning Medals and Titles
In 1998, Eva won a silver medal at the European Youth Chess Championships. This was for girls under 16, and the competition took place in Mureck. She was very close to winning gold, finishing just behind another strong player, Ana Matnadze.
Eva Moser made history in Austria. In 2003, she became the first Austrian woman to be awarded the title of Woman Grandmaster (WGM) by FIDE. The next year, in 2004, she also earned the title of International Master (IM). These are very high honors in the world of chess.
Becoming an Austrian Champion
In 2006, Eva Moser achieved something truly special. She won the main Austrian Chess Championship in Köflach. This was a big deal because she was the first woman ever to win this championship. She also won the Austrian women's championship twice, in 2010 and 2011.
Eva won many other tournaments too. She won the women's event in Dresden in 2000. She also won the Jena Open four times, in 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012. Her victories continued at the Chess Ladies Vienna tournament, which she won in both 2012 and 2013.
Playing for Teams
Eva Moser was a key player for Austria in many team chess events. She represented her country in the Women's Chess Olympiad starting in 2000. She even played in the open section (sometimes called the "men's section") of the 36th Chess Olympiad in 2004. She also played in the Women's European Team Chess Championship from 2003 onwards and in the open section of the Mitropa Cup.
Her Austrian team, Styria Graz, became the Austrian Team Champion in 2006/07. She also played for other teams, like Wolfsberg in Austria and OSG Baden-Baden in the German Women's Chess Bundesliga. Her German team won the league many times, showing their strong dominance.
Sharing Her Chess Knowledge
Eva Moser also helped others learn chess. She published several helpful chess DVDs with ChessBase. These DVDs taught people different strategies and tips for playing chess.

Her Education and Work
In 2009, Eva Moser completed her degree in Business Administration in Graz. Besides playing chess, she also worked for an Austrian chess magazine called "Schach-Aktiv." This showed her continued passion for chess, even beyond playing professionally.

Sadly, Eva Moser passed away on March 31, 2019, in Graz. She died from leukaemia, a type of cancer. Eva Moser is remembered as a pioneering and inspiring chess player who achieved great success and helped grow the game.
