Eva Noer Kondrup (born on April 23, 1964) is a talented Danish composer. She writes many different kinds of classical music. Her works include pieces for piano, chamber music (for small groups of instruments), and even big orchestral pieces and operas. An opera is like a play where the story is told mostly through singing.

Eva was a special composer for the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra in the early 2000s. During this time, she wrote two important pieces: Ulvemælk (which means "Wolf's Milk") for viola and orchestra, and Salt strøm salt (meaning "Salt Stream Salt") for a singer and orchestra. But she is most famous for her operas, especially Neja (from 1999) and Den Rejsende (which means "The Traveller") from 2018.

Becoming a Composer

Eva Noer Kondrup was born in 1964. When she was a child, she loved listening to music and playing folk music. Folk music is traditional music from a certain region or group of people.

It wasn't until she was 18 that she became very interested in classical music. She took an introductory music course. Later, in her late twenties, she began to study how to compose music. She studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and finished her studies in 1997.

She also learned from famous composers like Iannis Xenakis, George Crumb, and Louis Andriessen. She studied composition with Hans Gefors at the Malmö Academy of Music.

Her Music and Operas

Eva Noer Kondrup's latest opera is called Den Rejsende (The Traveller). It lasts about 50 minutes and is an experimental opera. This opera was inspired by many people who traveled across the Danish border in September 2015. They were walking along the motorway to find new homes in Sweden.

The music in Den Rejsende uses sounds and styles from folk music traditions of the Middle East and the Balkans. The first performance of this opera was on February 3, 2018. It was shown at the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen.

Awards and Recognition

In 2002, Eva Noer Kondrup received a special award called De unges Sonningpris. This means "the Sonning Youth Prize." It was given to her by the Danish Léonie Sonnings Music Foundation. This award recognizes young musical talent.
