Evaristo Baschenis (born December 7, 1617 – died March 16, 1677) was an Italian artist from the 1600s. He was a Baroque painter, mostly working in his hometown of Bergamo.

About Evaristo Baschenis

Baschenis came from a family of artists. He is most famous for painting still lifes. A still life is a type of art that shows objects that don't move. Baschenis often painted musical instruments.

This love for instruments might explain his friendship with a famous family of violin makers from Cremona. Painting still life scenes was not very common for Italian artists before the 1600s.

Baschenis had a special way of painting. He focused on the shapes and forms of everyday objects. This was different from many other painters of his time. They often painted big religious or mythical stories. For Baschenis, the musical instruments he painted had their own beauty. Even when they were silent, their shapes were interesting.

Some people think his detailed style might have been inspired by early paintings from Caravaggio. Or perhaps it came from Dutch painters who were known for their still life art.
