Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Ewing is a small place in Jackson County, Indiana, in the United States. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that don't have their own local government, like a city or town does. Instead, it's part of the larger county area.

History of Ewing

Ewing was officially started in 1857. A man named William H. Ewing helped plan the community. He did this because people knew that a railroad was going to be built through that area. Railroads were very important back then for travel and moving goods.

In the same year, 1857, a post office opened in Ewing. A post office is where people send and receive mail. It was a very important place for the community to connect with others. The post office stayed open for a long time, serving the people of Ewing until it closed in 1967.
