Exco Levi's Music Journey
Early Life and Moving to Canada
Exco Levi was born in a place called Harmons in Jamaica. When he was young, he started singing in his school choir. His father, Michael 'Mr Cool' Levy, worked with a "sound system" called Super Soul. A sound system is like a big mobile DJ setup that plays music for parties and events.
In 2005, Exco Levi moved to Canada. He began his music career there in 2007. One of his first songs was "O' Canada". He chose his stage name, 'Exco', because he admired a famous football player named Andrés Escobar.
Working with Producers and Winning Awards
A fellow musician, Richie Stephens, introduced Exco Levi to a music producer named Donovan Germain. They started working together. In 2012, Exco Levi's song "Bleaching Shop", which he recorded with Donovan Germain, won a Juno Award for Reggae Recording of the Year.
He continued to win more Juno Awards. He won for his song "Storms of Life" in 2013 and "Strive" in 2014. Exco Levi also worked with German music producers called Silly Walks.
Albums and Performances
In December 2014, Exco Levi performed at a big music event called Sting. The next month, in January 2015, he also performed at another festival called Rebel Salute.
In March 2015, he released his second album, which was called Country Man. Later that year, he won his fourth Juno Award for his song "Welcome the King".
Life in Brampton and More Awards
By 2016, Exco Levi was living in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. He had his own music studio there. He also continued to work on music in Jamaica sometimes. That same year, he was honored by being added to the Brampton Arts Walk of Fame.
In 2017, Exco Levi won his fifth Juno Award for his reggae song "Siren". In November 2017, he released his third album, Narrative. This album featured other artists like Raging Fyah and Sizzla.
Recent Nominations
Exco Levi has been nominated for many Juno Awards. In 2019, his album Narrative, produced by Silly Walks from Germany, earned him his seventh Juno nomination.
In 2020, his song "Wah Gwaan" received his eighth Juno nomination. Most recently, in 2022, Exco Levi received his ninth Juno Award nomination for his song "By Any Means".
