Exo is a company from America that makes special protein bars. These bars are unique because they use cricket flour. This flour comes from house crickets that are ground up into a powder. Exo sells these bars as a healthy snack that gives you lots of energy.
The Story of Exo
How Exo Started
Exo was started in 2013 by two friends, Gabi Lewis and Greg Sewitz. They were studying at Brown University at the time. They had a cool idea: to make food from crickets! To begin, they ordered 2,000 crickets and started experimenting with recipes.
Later, they moved to New York City. There, they teamed up with Kyle Connaughton. Kyle was an expert in R&D (which means Research and Development) from a famous restaurant. Together, they worked to create a protein bar that was not only healthy but also tasted really good.
Growing the Company
To get their company going, Gabi and Greg used a website called Kickstarter. This is a place where people can donate money to help new ideas and projects. In early 2016, they asked for $20,000, but people were so excited about their idea that they raised even more – $55,000!
By March 2016, Exo had gathered a total of $5.6 million. This money came from early investors and something called "Series A funding." This is a way for new companies to get a lot of money from bigger investors to help them grow.
A New Chapter
In the spring of 2018, another company called Aspire Food Group bought Exo. This meant that all the products Aspire Food Group made under their own brand, Aketta, became part of the Exo brand. So, Exo continued to make and sell its unique cricket protein bars.
