The Ezekiel Woodruff House is a very old and important house located in Southington, Connecticut. It was built a long time ago, in the mid-to-late 1700s. This house is a great example of a special building style called Georgian Cape. Because it's so well-preserved and important, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

What Does the Ezekiel Woodruff House Look Like?
The Ezekiel Woodruff House is in eastern Southington. You can find it on the east side of East Street, which is also known as Connecticut Route 364. It sits just south of where Misery Brook crosses the road.
Building Style and Materials
This house is a single-story building made of wood. It has a pointed roof, called a gabled roof. A large chimney stands in the middle of the house. The outside walls are covered with wooden boards called clapboards.
The house is built close to the road. It sits on a strong foundation made of brownstone. A big brownstone slab serves as the front step.
Front of the House
The front of the house has five sections, called bays. The main door is in the center. Above the door, there is a window with six small panes of glass. All the other windows are rectangular. They have simple frames around them.
Inside the House
When you go inside, you can still see many original parts of the house. These include wide wooden floorboards. There is also wooden paneling on the walls. The areas around the fireplaces are also original.
When Was the House Built?
Historians have studied the Ezekiel Woodruff House. In the 1950s, a group called the Colonial Dames of America did research. They believed the house was built in 1785. This date matches the house's style.
However, local town records say the house was built in 1758. This might be a simple mistake in the numbers. The house was built for Ezekiel Woodruff. His family was among the first people to settle in this area. The house is a great example of a country home from the late Georgian period.
