Ezkio-Itsaso (also known as Ezquioga-Ichaso) is a small town in the Gipuzkoa province. This area is part of the Basque Country, a special region in northern Spain.

Ezkio-Itsaso: A Town in the Basque Country

Ezkio-Itsaso is a municipality, which means it's like a local government area. It was created in 1965 when two smaller towns, Ezkio and Itsaso, joined together. This made them one bigger community.

How Ezkio-Itsaso Was Formed

In 1965, the towns of Ezkio and Itsaso decided to combine. They became one municipality called Ezkio-Itsaso. This helped them work together more easily.

Later, in 2016, some local leaders in Gipuzkoa tried to split Ezkio-Itsaso back into two separate towns. However, Spain's main government did not agree. Judges also decided that the towns should stay together. So, Ezkio-Itsaso remains one municipality today.

The Story of the Apparitions

In the 1930s, the town of Ezkio became well-known. Some people reported seeing visions, or "apparitions," of the Virgin Mary there. These events drew a lot of attention. However, the Catholic Church, which is the main religious authority, has not officially said that these visions were real.

Future Plans: A High-Speed Train Hub

There are plans to build a new fast train station in Ezkio-Itsaso. This train is called AVE, which stands for "Alta Velocidad Española" (Spanish High Speed). If built, this station would be a very important travel spot. It would connect the "Basque Y" (a network of fast train lines in the Basque Country) to another region called Navarre. This would make it easier for people to travel quickly between these areas. Another idea is to connect Navarre from Vitoria-Gasteiz, another city in the Basque Country.
